Compare a fork before switching

Evaluate documentation, branch support and your recovery path before changing software.

Name the problem first

Write down what you want to change: interface, engagement behavior, a vehicle-specific issue, or something else. A long feature list alone does not establish that a fork meets your needs.

Check the maintainer’s current guidance

Use our software directory to reach the project’s own repository and documentation. Confirm the supported device, vehicle, branch, update process and known limitations. Read recent release notes and issues.

Understand the scope

Forks can change device software and driving behavior. comma does not validate third-party forks for safety. Do not equate popularity with approval, or assume a setting carries the same meaning across projects.

Prepare before changing anything

While parked, record your current project, branch and version. Read the maintainer’s installation and return-to-upstream instructions before starting. Keep configuration changes small and understandable; never disable driver monitoring or safety constraints to try a feature.

Share an experience, not a verdict

In the relevant project category, describe your exact setup and what you observed. Explain limitations and link the version you used. Avoid claiming that a fork works for every vehicle.
